Internet Reacts to Joey McGuire shots at Texas

Texas Tech football head coach Joey McGuire has made several verbal “shots” at the University of Texas over a high-profile scheduling feud.

The conflict began when Texas coach Sarkisian criticized Texas Tech’s schedule, claiming Texas could remain undefeated with second- and third-string players and still qualify for the College Football Playoff. 

McGuire responded by publicly proposing to buy out Texas Tech’s Week 1 game against Abilene Christian, on the condition that Texas would buy out their opener against Texas State so the teams could face each other. Texas Tech billionaire Cody Campbell suggested that Tech cover both schools’ buyouts to ensure the Week 1 rivalry at AT&T Stadium, but Texas declined.

The rivalry worsened when McGuire publicly claimed that the Longhorns avoid playing the Red Raiders “because they’re scared.”
