Is North Carolina Having Buyer’s Remorse?

North Carolina’s hiring of Bill Belichick was a monumental move for the program which also shook the football world. However, since the introductory press conference on December 12th, the program has been filled with turmoil. And that turmoil is all non-football related.

None of this is North Carolina’s doing. They made an amazing hire and should be enjoying the honeymoon phase of the relationship. Instead, the Tar Heels have had to navigate the confusing world of Coach Belichick and his girlfriend, Jordan Hudson, on what seems like a daily basis.

And because of this, it is hard to believe that everyone in Chapel Hill is still 100% supportive of the hire. I say this because it is May 10th and the Tar Heels have yet to play a football game with Coach Belichick in charge. If the Tar Heels begin the 2025 season 6-0 and are ranked in the top ten, everyone will quickly forget about the circus that has moved into town, but for now, the reality is extremely big-top themed.

Personally, I’m already tired of the daily sagas. What is Hudson’s current job? Where is Hudson allowed to go? Is Hudson too controlling? I don’t care about any of it, but if I was a North Carolina fan or on the Board of Governors, who approved of his hiring, I’d likely feel differently. In that case, I’d wish there was a time machine that could fast forward the world 3.5 months so that the season could start.

But that isn’t the reality, so we all have to endure 3.5 more months of consistent Belichick/Hudson stories. The Tar Heels signed up for the NFL Hall of Fame head coach not the reality TV drama/comedy that has come with it.

Who would have known that it was a package deal?
