Jalen Milroe sets stage for Heisman odds boost with monstrous five touchdown performance in Week 3
USA TODAY Sports

The Alabama Crimson Tide needed their alien quarterback to help settle an uncertain roster during the first half, and Jalen Milroe responded loudly. The junior dual-threat playmaker, ranked as high as tied for the best Heisman Trophy odds at one point this preseason, caught fire late in the first quarter.

In total, Milroe finished the game with five touchdowns. Entering Week 3 with the sixth-best Heisman Trophy odds, Milroe will undoubtedly rise. He earned it with stellar play.

Milroe, along with star freshman receiver Ryan Williams, is carrying a heavy load on the Tide's offense this season. New head coach Kalen DeBoer has tasked him with balancing efficiency with big plays. However, he's still tried not to overtask his superstar and risk injury.

The Wisconsin Badgers, 2-0 entering this week, gave Alabama all they could handle in the first quarter. But Milroe found his zone on the team's final drive of the quarter, connecting with Williams on a 31-yard touchdown pass.

At that point, Milroe unleashed his blend of freakish traits and terrific deep accuracy.

Whether it was leading a 17-second drive right before half that was capped off with a touchdown to Germie Bernard (below), or one of the myriad of jaw-dropping displays of athleticism, Milroe took over this game.

Repeatedly, Milroe just made it look too easy against a defense that has traditionally struggled against speed but not physicality.

Check out his 10-yard touchdown run for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Completing 12 of his 17 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns, Milroe's deep throwing has been taken to the next level this year. He's so good at launching the ball downfield that fans on social media joked that tricking Milroe into thinking every throw is 30-plus yards is ideal.

Milroe also added 75 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He currently trails Quinn Ewers in the Heisman race, but there's plenty of season left for him to make up ground.
