The Ohio State Buckeyes are the college football national champions following a phenomenal run in the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 34-23, in the finale of the College Football Playoff, finishing the season with a 14-2 record.

Following the national championship game, Buckeyes star Jeremiah Smith posted a couple of new photos from the game celebration and shared a message to his more than 436,000 followers on social media.

"Gotta thank God for this one," Smith said.

In the win over the Fighting Irish, Smith posted one touchdown and 88 yards on five receptions. Smith helped the Buckeyes' offense produce 445 total yards with 22 first-down conversions and a 9-of-12 third-down conversion rate.

The star freshman ended his first year with the Buckeyes recording 15 touchdowns and 1,315 yards on 76 receptions.

Smith passed Davante Adams for the second-most receiving yards in a season by a freshman. Adams had 1,312 at Fresno State in 2012.

The record-holder for single-season receiving yards by a freshman is Michael Crabtree, who had 1,962 yards with the Texas Tech Red Raiders in 2007. He also posted 22 touchdowns and 134 receptions during his freshman season in the Big 12.
