Jeremiyah Love Named A Walter Camp Preseason All-American

Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love had a breakout season in 2024, and that performance has set sky high expectations for him in 2025. Walter Camp released its preseason All-America team and Love was named a first team running back, further evidence of the expectations for the talented running back.

Love rushed for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns last season while averaging an impressive 6.9 yards per carry. Love rushed for a touchdown in every regular season game last fall and his 17 touchdowns were second most all-time in a single season for the Irish. His 6.9 yards per carry ranked 7th in the country and was just behind the 6.95 mark behind Heisman Trophy runner up Ashton Jeanty of Boise State.

The St. Louis native was a big play back throughout the season, rushing for touchdowns of 98, 76, 68, 64, 48 and 39 yards. His 98-yard score was the first touchdown ever in the 12-team College Football Playoff. Love also had a 32-yard touchdown reception in the 31-24 win over Louisville.

Heading into the 2025 season expectations are that Love will build on his sophomore season success. What that looks like remains to be seen, but building on his total yards production certainly falls into that category. That's true both as a runner and also as a pass catcher, an area where Love has spent plenty of time developing during the offseason. 

Should Love finish the season on the first-team it would be an achievement not often seen at Notre Dame. In fact, the last running back to earn a first-team All-America honor was Allen Pinkett back in 1985. Pinkett also earned All-America honors in 1983. Running back Vagas Ferguson was Notre Dame's last consensus All-American, earning that honor in 1979. Notre Dame has had backs like Audric Estime, Jerome Bettis, Reggie Brooks and Autry Denson earn second or third team honors, but it has been decades since an Irish back earned first-team honors.

Two Notre Dame opponents also made the first-team squad from Walter Camp. Miami (Fla.) offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa and Boise State offensive lineman Kage Casey were also named to the first team on offense. NC State tight end Justin Jolly and Texas A&M guard Ar'maj Reed-Adams were named to the second-team squad.
