Jim Harbaugh reportedly will return to Michigan

Jim Harbaugh isn't going anywhere, Michigan fans.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday night that Harbaugh has informed the Wolverines he is staying at the school for the 2022 season.

Harbaugh had interviewed for the Vikings' head-coaching job earlier in the day and was widely believed to be the front-runner for the position. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport had reported that Harbaugh was traveling Minnesota with "confidence" he'd leave with the job.

Instead, Harbaugh will return to Ann Arbor for his eighth season coaching his alma mater. He came back to Michigan as its head coach in 2015 following four seasons in the NFL as the 49ers' head coach. With the Wolverines, Harbaugh has compiled a career 61-24 record, highlighted by a 2021 campaign in which he led the team to the College Football Playoff and beat conference rival Ohio State for the first time as coach.

The Vikings now will choose between a list of other candidates who have interviewed for the position. The apparent front-runners are Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell, all of whom have completed two interviews with Minnesota.
