Joel Klatt Reveals DJ Lagway's Ranking Among Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks

The Florida Gators have won three national titles in college football, in 1996, 2006 and 2008.

Florida had its first winning season and bowl win under head coach Billy Napier in 2024. The Gators have also found their starting quarterback of the future in DJ Lagway.

On Monday, Joel Klatt released his quarterback rankings on "The Joel Klatt Show." He ranked Lagway at No. 7 among his top 10 quarterbacks.

Lagway played in 12 games with seven starts for Florida last season. He initially sat behind Graham Mertz to begin the year.

Florida went 6-1 with Lagway starting under center.

Lagway was a five-star prospect and No. 1 quarterback from the 2024 class in the On3 Industry Rankings.

He threw for 1,915 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his 12 games played in 2024.

Mertz first suffered an upper-body injury in the season opener against the Miami Hurricanes. He missed the following game against Samford, and Lagway started. Lagway finished the game with 456 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Mertz started the next four games before suffering a season-ending ACL tear versus the Tennessee Volunteers.

Lagway started the next game against the Georgia Bulldogs, but suffered an injury in the first half and exited the contest.

He sat out the rest of the Georgia game and missed the Texas Longhorns game before returning to the starting lineup. Lagway started in the final four games for Florida in 2024.

Lagway helped lead Florida to an 8-5 finish and defended his head coach amid hot seat concerns. He revealed how disrespected the team felt when people bashed their head coach.

However, this offseason has not been all good news for Lagway. He suffered a shoulder injury and was not able to throw at the beginning of spring camp.

Lagway and Florida open the 2025 season with Long Island on Aug. 30.
