Speed kills, and that's certainly true on the football field.  Josh Heupel just added some to his 2026 recruiting class on Saturday with a player just down the interstate from Knoxville.

Tennessee landed the commitment from Greeneville, TN (Greeneville HS) WR/DB Zaydyn Anderson.

According to recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong, Anderson is expected to be a defensive back for the Vols.

Anderson is a three-star recruit according to On3 Sports' industry rankings.  He's the consensus #49 cornerback nationally and the #16 player in the state of Tennessee for the 2026 cycle.

Anderson didn't have many notable offers nationally.  He held offers from East Carolina, Cincinnati, ETSU, MTSU, Memphis, Arkansas State, Colorado State, Ball State, and Liberty.  He received an offer from Tennessee back on March 31.

Anderson's athleticism is undeniable, and Heupel and his staff are counting in being able to tap into that and mold a solid player.  Anderson was a three-sport star for Greeneville earning All-State honors on the gridiron.  He helped the Greene Devils reach the 3A state semifinals in basketball and also win back-to-back state titles in track.  Anderson was the state champion in the long jump and 100-meter dash.

As such, with explosiveness and top-end speed, it's no wonder Heupel rolled the dice of him.  Now it's up to Anderson and his coaches to show the rest of the country just what they missed out on.
