Julian Edelman: Jordon Hudson Is A ‘Distraction’ For Bill Belichick

If anyone knows about “The Patriot Way,” it’s Edelman, who played under Belichick for 12 years in New England.

Edelman appeared on Wednesday’s edition of The Herd to discuss Belichick and his recent moves, including an awkward interview on CBS Sunday Morning. 

Edelman cited how the future Hall of Fame coach always talked about limiting “distractions.” Unfortunately for Belichick, Edelman thinks this relationship is becoming a hindrance for North Carolina football.

“The No. 1 thing we used to talk about in New England was distractions,” Edelman said.”‘Let’s not make distractions. The game’s already as hard as it is. To prepare for it, to play, to coach.’ And regardless of what her role is, Jordon, yeah, I thought he got an unfair public opinion on the whole thing, because that happens all the time. Anytime we do behind-the-scenes this, that, you’ve got someone that represents you. They’re gonna jump in.”

Despite giving Hudson the initial benefit of the doubt, Edelman believes the situation has worsened.

“But now that it’s gained and snowballed to what it’s become right now, where we’re talking about it three weeks later, it’s become a distraction,” Edelman said. “That’s what we all think now. This is becoming a distraction. We gotta practice as we preach here.”

Edelman doesn’t want to go against his former coach, but this relationship drama is lingering weeks later. At some point, it has to stop.

“It’s getting to a point where we’ve got to start worrying about the ACC, we’ve got to start worrying about Dabo Swinney,” Edelman explained. “We shouldn’t be talking about our girlfriend. And that’s how coach would say it to us. That’s the truth. When it comes down to running a football organization and playing football, let’s keep the main thing the main thing.”

Peter King Rips Bill Belichick For Interview

Compared to Edelman’s criticism, NFL writer Peter King did not hold back when ripping Belichick for his CBS interview.

“This is a guy who owned every room he ever walked into and now he’s got a 24-year-old muse telling him what to do or trying to control situations that quite frankly she has nothing to do with or should have nothing to do with,” King said on Sports Media with Richard Deitsch. “Bill’s got to get a hold of himself here. He’s got to get a hold of this situation. This is embarrassing. It’s totally embarrassing for a guy who’s as great at his job as he is.”

Perhaps time away from the spotlight is exactly what Belichick needs right now.
