Julian Lewis’ Father Sends Clear Message to Deion Sanders After Colorado’s Jersey Reveal

With more than 35 offers in hand, quarterback Julian Lewis, a former five-star recruit, ultimately committed to the Colorado Buffaloes, and it appears that decision may have been guided by the relationship of Lewis' father with Deion Sanders.

On Wednesday, T. Carlton Lewis, Julian's father, expressed his appreciation for Coach Prime on social media, feeling that his son was being well taken care of.

"Little things like getting your number for kids goes a long way. Thankful for @DeionSanders and the staff at CU for how they’ve made Julian’s transition to college life smooth. @JulianLewis10 @CUBuffsFootball #10 jersey’s available now @Fanatics."

Attached to the post were several pictures of his son's No. 10 jersey shown in different styles and colors.

Lewis was a highly sought-after prospect and first committed to USC before flipping to the Buffaloes last November. He is now competing for the starting job as the team is pitting the true freshman against Kaidon Salter, an experienced veteran transfer from Liberty University. Salter appears to be the frontrunner, but a starter has not yet been named.

When Lewis committed to Colorado, he shared an image to Instagram  of himself seated on a throne with Shedeur Sanders handing him a set of keys, a metaphor that the young, incoming quarterback would be taking over the program after Sanders departed.

Lewis replied to his father's jersey reveal post by saying, "Blessed to be able to wear 10 at CU @KSlash10 ."

The Buffaloes' No. 10 jersey has a lot of history. Most notably, former Buffs star and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Kordell Stewart wore the No. 10. In his four years at Colorado, he passed for 6,481 yards, 33 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. He also added 1,725 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
