Kansas State’s backfield plans are looking clearer, at least for now. According to his agent, Reggie Blackwell, star running back Dylan Edwards is not expected to redshirt this season. That clarification comes amid swirling transfer‑portal chatter that’s picked up steam on social media. Edwards, who has quietly battled through injuries, says he’s “excited” to return to action and contribute to the Wildcats.

The decision not to redshirt him signals that Edwards still views Kansas State as his team and his home. When healthy, he’s been a workhorse, a pass‑catching threat, and a go-to option on crucial downs. The “questionable” tag on the Big 12 injury report earlier this week raised red flags about his status for Saturday’s game against TCU. But now we know the program plans to lean on him, rather than sit him out for the year.

This isn’t just about one game or even one season. It’s about how Kansas State intends to balance player health, roster management, and competitive urgency. If Edwards can return and produce, it preserves what momentum the offense needs and reduces the strain on backups. If he’s limited in practice or game day, though, depth will be tested, and the coaching staff will have to calibrate his usage carefully.

Of course, transfer hints will continue to swirl anytime a star player carries “questionable” status or posts cryptic social activity. But Blackwell’s public statement helps cut through speculation. It puts context around the trajectory: yes, Edwards has had injuries; yes, there’s uncertainty; but there’s also confidence that he’ll be on the field, not on the bench.

Kansas State fans, media, and rivals were watching pregame warmups for clues anyway. Now, the expectations are set: Edwards might not be perfect, but he won’t be missing by plan. His recovery, conditioning, and how the coaching staff deploys him will matter more than ever.

If he plays, even in partial capacity, it could be a lift. If he’s limited, it will still create storyline tension. Either way, knowing he’s not presumed out for the season gives the Wildcats a clearer direction and gives Edwards a chance to define how the rest of this year goes.
