Alabama's Kalen DeBoer is, of course, more than just a football coach; he's a father, too. During an appearance on "The Next Round," an SEC-focused podcast, he had an opportunity to brag about his daughter's accomplishments as a member of the Washington Huskies softball team.

"Yeah, I'm really proud of her," said DeBoer through a big grin. "She's making a name for herself and I've always believed she had it in her. It happened even quicker than I thought. She got the opportunities and took advantage of them. ... I'm a proud dad, that's for sure."

Last week, Alexis DeBoer was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Huskies player to win the award since 2016. DeBoer was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team and All-Freshman Team.

DeBoer plays first base and delivered a .369/.458/.846/1.304 slash line this year. She hit 20 home runs, drove in 54 RBI and stole four bases for Washington.

The Huskies finished the season 34-17 and began the NCAA Regionals against Mississippi State on Friday.

Kalen coached the Huskies football team for two seasons beginning in 2022. The 50-year-old coach quickly rose up the ranks, going from Fresno State in 2020 to Washington in 2022 and now in Tuscaloosa with the Crimson Tide.

In 2024, Alexis was ranked No. 11 recruit by Extra Innings Softball out of Bellevue High School in Bellevue, Washington. She was first team All-State in her junior year and a PGF All-American.

In 2009, Washington won the softball NCAA Tournament and has been the WCWS runner-up three times (1996, 1999 and 2018).
