Kalen DeBoer evaluates how Alabama football handled adversity vs. Georgia

Kalen DeBoer felt like Alabama football punched back hard against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night when adversity inevitably came.

The Crimson Tide jumped out on the Bulldogs early in this matchup with a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. While the Bulldogs never led in the game, Kirby Smart and company continued to put up a fight. Alabama went into halftime with a 24-14 lead over Georgia and would not score another point in the game.

Georgia eventually cut the Tide’s lead to three in the third quarter but never scored again. DeBoer praised his team for its willingness to continue to fight as the game remained tight throughout the night during his post-game press conference.

“I mean, it’s a mindset going in, especially against a team like this,” DeBoer said. “I mean you’re gonna get punches thrown at you. You’re just gonna. You’re gonna take, you’re gonna get some, and we got some tonight. It’s just, what’s your response gonna be, and our response was to punch back, punch back harder. I really felt like even when it isn’t perfect execution, just felt like there was an attitude and energy that our guys had, that there’s gonna be no regrets when we walk off the football field because we gave it everything we had.”

Games on the road have been a struggle for Alabama under Kalen DeBoer. Before Saturday night, the Tide were 2-5 away from Bryant-Denny Stadium with DeBoer as their head coach.

Alabama will return home Saturday for a big game against Vanderbilt in the friendly confines of Saban Field. Unlike when the Tide is on the road, they have been dominant at home under DeBoer with a perfect 9-0 record.
