On Monday afternoon, Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks added a new name through the transfer portal with the addition of Rice tight end Boden Groen.
Groen, a 6-foot-4 senior from Santa Ana, California, spent the previous three seasons with the Rice Owls, where he turned into a reliable pass catcher in the middle of the field.
In his three-year career with the Owls, the California native posted 60 grabs for 556 yards and three scores. He is set to join a room of featured role players like Leyton Cure and DeShawn Hanika in Lawrence.
The addition is massive for the Jayhawks, as the group saw their expected starter, Keyan Burnett, return to Arizona through the transfer portal after failing to take a snap with the team. Burnett was a talented transfer from Arizona who suffered a season-ending injury prior to the 2024 season. After rehabbing back into shape and recovering from his injury, he elected to return to Tucson.
Groen is the Jayhawks’ fifth transfer addition through the spring window, joining the likes of Illinois’ Alex Bray, Chattanooga’s Leroy Harris III, Georgia Tech’s Syeed Gibbs, and Syracuse’s Enrique Cruz Jr.
