Is it really a rivalry when one side never wins?
November 1st, 2008. That was the last time Kansas beat Kansas State, winning 52-51. The Wildcats have taken the last 16 in the series.
Kansas State is trying to scratch and claw its way out of the doldrums, winning two of its last three games, and pulled off a bit of a stunner over TCU two weeks ago. This starts a run of three road games in four dates, with Texas Tech coming to Manhattan next week.
Kansas is on shaky ground. It’s 4-3, but it lost two of its last three games. On the plus side, it gets the scrimmage against Oklahoma State next, but it’ll be a fight to get two more wins and a bowl bid.

Kansas can't stop good teams from running.
More on this in a moment, but the Jayhawks lost all three times when they got hammered for more than 200 yards. Those just so happened to be the games against Missouri, Texas Tech, and Cincinnati - aka, the good teams.
Kansas has yet to do anything great against anyone who's any good, with the possible exception of UCF.
Kansas State isn't running like it's supposed to, but quarterback Avery Johnson has settled in and is starting to throw a bit better. But ...
It's simple with this team. The running game has to work, the run defense has to be great, and everything else fills in from there.
The defense isn't good enough to stuff decent offenses. Beating teams like West Virginia, Fresno State, and Wagner isn't anything great - everyone else was able to run well on the Jayhawk front.
Kansas State doesn't beat itself. Kansas has to be the more physical team from the start. It has to get the backs into a steady groove, and this has to be the Jalon Daniels game. He has to take off more than usual and do something, anything, to keep the chains moving.
What's been the biggest key in Kansas State's slight turnaround? Takeaways. It's starting to force a lot more turnovers - ten in the last four games - and it's not giving the ball away.
Kansas will turn this into more of an up-and-down shootout, both teams will be wildly inconsistent, and ...
NEVER ... MESS ... WITH A LONG COLLEGE FOOTBALL STREAK.
Most of the players on both teams don't know anything that happened yesterday, much less any of the games between these two ten years ago, but after a while, these things become a part of the way programs act. It might sound silly, but ...
