Kentucky Legacy Recruit Ty Bryant Shines On The Big Stage
Jordan Prather-Imagn Images

Junior safety Ty Bryant was born in Lexington, Kentucky. His football journey started with the local Southland Chiefs but skyrocketed as a Frederick Douglass Bronco in high school.

Bryant was a part of four district championships, three-straight region championships and two-state title runner-ups as a Bronco. He then captured the KHSAA 5A State Championship in 2022 as a senior. Bryant was named the Most Valuable Player in the state championship victory.

In high school, Bryant’s athletic ability was on full display as a weapon for the Broncos while playing defensive back, wide receiver, punt returner, kick returner, gunner on punts, and place-kick holder. He also set the school record for all-time tackles with 273.

His athletic versatility shined off the football field as well as in the spring; he can be seen playing in the infield on the baseball diamond. Once he committed to Kentucky for his second sporting choice, Bryant even flirted with the idea of becoming a two-sport athlete and playing baseball in college as well. He realized if he wanted to make a future in football, he needed to fully commit to the gridiron.

Kentucky Wildcat Legacy

Ty Bryant’s father, Cisco Bryant, played for Kentucky from 1983 to 85. He was part of the 1983 and 1984 Hall of Fame Classic games (also formally known as the Outback Bowl and the current ReliaQuest Bowl). The 1984 game was a thrilling 20-19 victory for Kentucky over #20 Wisconsin, decided by a 52-yard field goal from Joey Worley. The ’83 game loss to West Virginia served as motivation for the Wildcats’ successful ’84 season. The ’84 team finished the season 9-3 and ranked 19th in both of the AP and UPI polls.

During his time as a Wildcat, Cisco was a wide receiver under head coach Jerry Claiborne. He hauled in 29 career catches for 482 yards and six touchdowns.

Ty Bryant wears his father’s jersey number (14), and this past Saturday shined on the biggest stage. On the SEC on ABC 3:30 pm Saturday time slot, he intercepted Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons twice in the first quarter. He ran both back inside the 35-yard lines, setting up the first 10 points of the game, all for the Wildcats.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn’t hold on to the lead as UK fell to Ole Miss 30-23 in the SEC season opener. The Cats are now 1-1 on the season and return to Kroger Field this Saturday versus Eastern Michigan at 7:30 pm EST. Kentucky will look for a bounce-back win before an open bye week for week four of college football.

End Of My Ty Bryant Rant

Ty Bryant had played in all 25 games during his first two seasons in Lexington. This season, he is taking on an even bigger role and exceeding. Playing both as the starting safety and the punt returner for Kentucky in 2025. He was sixth on the team last year with 30 tackles and had 10 tackles and 2 picks on Saturday against Ole Miss.

Ty was a bright spot and received two of the biggest roars from the home crowd at Kroger Field on Saturday. Being a Lexington native with legacy ties to the Blue and White, we are sure that stepping up on that stage and wearing his father’s jersey was extra special for both him and his family.
