Kirby Smart addresses Brock Bowers, Amarius Mims missing Georgia Pro Day
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia football's top draft prospects, tight end Brock Bowers and offensive tackle Amarius Mims, did not participate in Wednesday's Pro Day.

Just before the workouts started, ESPN's Jordan Reid reported that both players were dealing with hamstring injuries and would stay sidelined.

Bowers also didn't work out in front of NFL evaluators in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine last month due to an ankle injury.

Mims went through his drills at the combine but stopped short after pulling a hamstring.

Could this hurt either of their draft stocks?

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart doesn't seem to believe so, calling the Pro Day "anticlimactic," since many coaches and NFL evaluators have already seen what these guys can do in practice, at the combine, or on game tape.

“Watch the tape. The tape speaks for itself,” Smart said. “Nobody really asks about Brock because everybody’s seen him. They’ve been to our practices. They know what he can do. I don’t think there’s a lot of questions about Brock Bowers’ toughness or ability.”

In regards to Mims, he's only started eight games.

But that doesn't mean a thing in Smart's eyes.

"I think the eight career starts is a mistake," Smart said. "What does that matter if you block Travon Walker, Nolan Smith, Robert Beal your whole career... Would you rather have a guy who's played 27 games and played against nobody or somebody who played against first-round draft picks every day at practice? I know which one I'm picking. ... He's uber-talented. He's going to play a long time [in the NFL]."

Mims and Bowers are still set to work out privately for teams on April 10, two weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft.

“The number one thing is being 100 percent when you work out," Smart said. "If they were 100 percent, they would probably do it today."

While Smart made it clear that he's not a big Pro Day guy, he said he's "excited" to see Mims and Bowers work out one last time.
