Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are showing no signs of slowing down on the recruiting trail, continuing their impressive momentum with yet another major commitment.
Over the past week, Georgia has landed seven commitments in as many days, and their latest addition is one of their biggest splashes yet.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the Bulldogs have secured a pledge from James Johnson, the top-ranked defensive lineman in the class of 2026.
"BREAKING: Elite 2026 DL James “JJ” Johnson has committed to Georgia, he tells me for @on3recruits. The 6’3 285 DL from Fort Myers, FL chose the Bulldogs over Texas, Florida, & Miami. He’s ranked as the No. 1 DL in 2026 (per On3)," Fawcett reported on X/Twitter.

Johnson, 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, chose Georgia over other powerhouse schools, including the Texas Longhorns, Florida Gators, and Miami Hurricanes.
“Georgia is DLU,” Johnson told On3. “They are all about development. What made Georgia No. 1 is the way they develop defensive linemen, my relationships with the coaches and the fit into their scheme. They run a great defense that really fits the way I play, so I know I can excel there. That is what it came down to."
On3 has Johnson ranked as the nation’s No. 1 defensive lineman and the No. 15 overall recruit from the class of 2026.
Georgia currently boasts the nation’s No. 2 recruiting class and has 24 players committed to their recruiting class of 2026:
