Kirk Herbstreit Brought New Travel Buddy To College GameDay This Saturday

Last week, Kirk Herbstreit delivered an emotional monologue about his beloved dog Ben on "College GameDay." He lost his longtime travel companion to a battle with cancer.

"Ben didn't care who you were. Everyone deserved his love. I think we can all learn from that at a time where everything seems to be aimed at dividing us," Herbstreit said. "What I experienced with Ben was that and so much. Dogs only flaws as species is they don't live long enough, but the warmth they give us never goes away, so neither will Ben."

At the end of Herbstreit's incredible speech, he referred to Ben as "America's friend." He's not far off with that statement. His Golden Retriever became a fan favorite because of his adorable personality.

Even though fans will no longer get to see Ben every Saturday on "College GameDay," Herbstreit could try to recreate the magic his dog brought by bringing his puppy, Peter, to each show.

On Saturday morning, Herbstreit shared a video of Peter relaxing by the "College GameDay" desk. From the looks of things, he won't have a problem settling in.

"Look at this guy," Herbstreit wrote. "Making himself right at home."

Peter has some big shoes to fill, make no mistake about it. The good news is that he's been training for this moment.

"He has been in training (with Ben and the other 2 boys) since he moved into the house last December," Herbstreit revealed on X. "Here he is today getting ready for the game. Took him over to the Rocky Steps!"

If Peter ends up traveling around the country with Herbstreit, it won't be long before America falls for him too.

Here's to hoping that Peter carries the torch that once belonged to Ben.
