There's something special about the Rose Bowl, and everyone who watches college football knows it.
The parade. The scenery. The weather and the roses. The iconic stadium and the way it seems to glow as the evening sun gives way to dusk.
It's a special location for a big college football game, and on New Year's Day 2024, the Rose Bowl once again shined bright. No. 1 Michigan beat No. 4 Alabama in an absolute overtime classic, 27-20.
The game between the two-time programs and their larger-than-life coaches (Jim Harbaugh and Nick Saban) was an incredible back-and-forth affair.
What arguably made it an instant classic, though, was the stage.
The Rose Bowl was so great, as it usually is, that long-time college football commentator Kirk Herbstreit — who called the game alongside Chris Fowler — would like to see the venue established as the spot for the College Football Playoff National Championship moving forward.

This season will end in Houston, Texas at NRG Stadium, where the Wolverines will take on No. 2 Washington for the championship.
With a 12-team playoff coming next season, though, the 2024-25 season could be a perfect opportunity to make the kind of change that would see the Rose Bowl on center stage moving forward.
The stadium, located in Pasadena, California, was built in 1922 and the first Rose Bowl game was on January 1, 1923.
