Kirk Herbstreit: Ohio State could get 'embarrassed' by Georgia in CFP

Kirk Herbstreit once played for the Ohio State Buckeyes but thinks his alma mater could have a bad night against the Georgia Bulldogs in the upcoming College Football Playoff.

"Last time we saw Ohio State, we obviously saw them get embarrassed at home against Michigan," Herbstreit explained during Friday's edition of "The Pat McAfee Show," as shared by Matt Audilet of The Spun. "Now they kind of back in into this playoff. The one thing that I would encourage Ohio State players and fans: I don’t know if the hill is any taller than the hill that they’re trying to climb by going into Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium) to play Georgia. The only thing worse is playing a really good LSU team in New Orleans at the Superdome."

Ohio State initially lost its spot in the four-team tournament after it was thrashed by the Michigan Wolverines to the tune of 45-23 on Nov. 26. As ESPN mentioned, though, the USC Trojans losing to the Utah Utes in the Pac-12 title game gave the Buckeyes a second life and possibly an opportunity to avenge the loss to its hated rival.

Before Ohio State and Georgia do battle on Dec. 31, Michigan will face the TCU Horned Frogs that afternoon.

"This is a massive challenge for Ohio State," Herbstreit added. "If they’re not getting their wiring ready for 60 minutes of just… a competitive spirit that I don’t know that they’ve ever seen, then they could get potentially embarrassed in that matchup."

The 13-0 Bulldogs crushed the LSU Tigers 50-30 in the SEC Championship Game.
