The Sporting News has released a list of six names it views as potential replacements for Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State, signaling that speculation around the Cowboys’ future is starting to heat up.

Leading the group is Zac Robinson, current offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons and a former Oklahoma State quarterback. Robinson started 34 games for the Cowboys from 2006 to 2009, throwing for over 8,000 yards and rushing for nearly 2,000 more. His familiarity with the program and modern NFL experience make him an obvious candidate should Oklahoma State look inward.

Also on the list is South Florida head coach Alex Golesh. While his head coaching résumé is still developing, Golesh is well-respected in coaching circles and started his career as a graduate assistant under Gundy in Stillwater. His ties to the school and offensive philosophy could make him a strong cultural and schematic fit.

Jon Sumrall, now at Tulane, has already made a name for himself as a proven head coach. After turning Troy into a 12-win team, he has continued that success in New Orleans. Sumrall’s defensive background and program-building ability check multiple boxes for a Power Four school looking for stability and toughness.

Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein brings a more aggressive, youthful profile. The former Kansas State quarterback has quickly become one of the top offensive minds in the country. His Big 12 roots and dynamic offensive approach could bring a fresh identity to the Cowboys.

Andy Kotelnicki, currently leading Penn State’s offense, has also made the cut. Kotelnicki helped engineer one of the most balanced and explosive units in the Big Ten and has previous ties to the region from his time coaching in Kansas. He’s seen as one of the more versatile play-callers available.

Rounding out the group is Eric Bieniemy. The longtime NFL offensive coordinator made his name with the Kansas City Chiefs before moving on to Washington and now Chicago. Though he has never been a college head coach, Bieniemy’s reputation as a leader and offensive innovator keeps him in the conversation.

Each candidate brings something different. Robinson offers familiarity. Golesh and Klein offer upside. Sumrall and Kotelnicki bring stability and success. Bieniemy offers the possibility of a total reset. What they all share is the ability to reshape Oklahoma State’s identity at a critical juncture.
