Lane Kiffin lands another major quarterback transfer for Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin is stockpiling quarterbacks from the transfer portal, landing another potential impact player on Thursday in former Oklahoma State starter Spencer Sanders.

Sanders told ESPN that he will play for Ole Miss next season after being a four-year starter for the Cowboys, accounting for 85 total touchdowns during that time.

What is so stunning about the addition of Sanders to the Ole Miss program is it came just a couple of days after Kiffin and the Rebels landed Walker Howard as a transfer from LSU, while 2022 starter Jaxson Dart also remains on the roster.

Dart threw for 2,974 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2022 while also accounting for 614 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Howard, coming off of his freshman season, appears to be the initial loser in this quarterback carousel in the short term. He was one of the top-50 recruits in the country a year ago and presumably transferred out of LSU because he did not see a quick path to starting.

Now, just days after landing at Mississippi, a four-year starter with a great track record rolls into what is now an extremely crowded quarterback room. Howard now appears to be behind two players with major experience as Power Five starting quarterbacks.

If he ends up being as good as he was initially projected to be coming out of high school, he should, in theory, be able to earn playing time at some point in the near future, but for the time being it seems the third-string quarterback at LSU will become a third-string quarterback at Ole Miss.
