Latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Ohio State star DE Jack Sawyer ends up with ex-Buckeyes teammates in second-round

When looking back at Ohio State’s 2024 season, no play will stick out more than the scoop-and-score by DE Jack Sawyer against Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

Sawyer’s sack or Texas QB Quinn Ewers to all but clinch to win over the Longhorns was a special moment and one of the more memorable plays in the program’s storied history.

It was an even more special moment for Sawyer — who is a Buckeye through and through — because it is all he has ever known. Now, Sawyer is soon to be off to the NFL and will hear his name called in April’s draft. In a recent mock draft here at A to Z Sports, Sawyer lands with a former teammate out west.

Arizona Cardinals reunite Jack Sawyer with Marvin Harrison Jr. with pick No. 47 overall

Sawyer is seen as a Day 2 draft pick and in this scenario, he comes off the board midway through the second round. The Cardinals take a Buckeye early for the second straight year and a pass rusher that improved consistently over his four-year college career. Sawyer’s breakout down the stretch of the season ballooned him into having a career-high 12.5 sacks as a senior. Sawyer joins Marvin Harrison Jr., Paris Johnson Jr., and Baron Browning as former Buckeyes with Arizona in this mock.

Sawyer had three sacks as a freshman and improved to 4.5 as a sophomore. As a junior, Sawyer was solid with six sacks and would have been selected in the 2024 NFL Draft had he decided to turn pro.

With the Cardinals, Sawyer could see time as both a standup end and with his hand in the dirt. Though Ohio State didn’t run a 3-4 defense, Sawyer could slide into one in the NFL.

Sawyer is a safe prospect that is going to have a long NFL career. His landing spot is going to be interesting to watch unfold in April.
