Makai Lemon’s rise to the top of Pro Football Focus’ wide receiver rankings didn’t just catch the attention of fans; it drew high praise from one of USC’s most iconic players.
After Lemon was named PFF’s No. 1 wide receiver prospect for the 2026 NFL Draft, Matt Leinart, the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner and two-time national champion, took to social media with a powerful endorsement:
“Amon-Ra reincarnated. Great player, better kid!!!”
That comparison carries serious weight. Amon-Ra St. Brown, another former Trojan, has become one of the NFL’s most productive and respected receivers with the Detroit Lions. To be mentioned in the same breath, especially by a USC legend, speaks volumes about Lemon’s trajectory.
Lemon earned the top spot on PFF’s list after a breakout sophomore season in 2024, where he posted 52 catches for 764 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Trojans in both receptions and receiving yards. He also ranked in the 89th percentile in yards per route run and the 87th percentile in separation rate, showcasing elite route-running and explosiveness.
What makes the comparison to St. Brown even more fitting is Lemon’s ability to play bigger than his frame. At 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, he thrives in the slot, using quickness, precision, and football IQ to win matchups consistently. He’s also known for his toughness and work ethic, traits that defined St. Brown’s rise from a fourth-round pick to Pro Bowl talent.
With USC entering its first full season in the Big Ten, Lemon is expected to be the focal point of Lincoln Riley’s offense. And with NFL scouts already buzzing, his stock could soar even higher by next spring.
For now, though, he’s got the ultimate stamp of approval from a Trojan great, and that’s not something you can fake.
