The Texas Longhorns got some much-needed good news on Thursday, August 22nd. Former SMU RB Velton Gardner announced that he would be joining the Longhorns for this upcoming season. This could not come sooner for Texas as the Longhorns lost two RBs in the past month due to season-ending injuries.
Gardner will bring a veteran presence to the backfield as this will be his sixth colligate season. in 2023 Gardner accounted for 32 carries 137 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Gardner’s most productive season came in 2022 with 368 rushing yards and one touchdown.

The Longhorns will show off its new addition to the RB room when they open the season on August 31st versus Colorado State at DKR Memorial Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN at 2:30 Central Time.
