There was a point in recent college football history when Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel was forced to "resign" because some of his players had received "improper benefits" from a tattoo parlor.
Nowadays, college or soon-to-be college athletes like Bronny James, Livvy Dunne and Arch Manning are making millions of dollars thanks to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals.
Times have certainly changed.
One example of that change comes from Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. The aforementioned Arch Manning is also at Texas as a freshman and may ultimately become the starting quarterback in Austin. But for now, Ewers is taking advantage of his starting role and popularity and looking to cash in on some sweet, sweet NIL money via newly released custom merchandise.
It's not just a t-shirt with a catchphrase either. While the product isn't all that impressive, what is impressive is the fact that Ewers has a full online store fans can shop at. Everything from short sleeve tees to hoodies is available. It's more of a business than a merch shop, which goes to show the true power of NIL for today's college athletes.

Ewers was the consensus No. 1 overall recruit in the 2021 class and threw for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns (six interceptions) as a redshirt freshman for Texas.
He's expected to be among the best quarterbacks in college football this season, though Manning—2023's consensus No. 1 overall recruit—will undoubtedly be breathing down his back.
