Louisville linebacker Jackson Hamilton has entered his name into the transfer portal, he announced Monday on social media. It is unlikely that he will play in Louisville’s upcoming bowl.

"I would like to thank the fans, my family, U of L coaches, and the entire staff for supporting me during my time here at Louisville," Hamilton said in a graphic posted to Twitter. "To my brothers on the field, thank you for the friendships and memories that we have created over the past three years. I will always be grateful."

Monday marked the first day of college football’s 30-day winter transfer portal window. Players have until Jan. 2, 2024 to enter the portal for their permitted one-time transfer under current NCAA guidelines.

In his third season at Louisville, Hamilton was regular fixture on special teams and a back end rotational piece in the linebacking corps. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker played in all 12 regular season games on special teams and six games on defense, logging 11 total tackles and a pass breakup in the win over Virginia Tech.

Last season, the Woodstock, Ga. native played in all 13 games on special teams, but saw defensive action in just 13 combined snaps against USF and Wake Forest, logging four total tackles on the season. The No. 875 prospect in the 2021 cycle, he played just 11 snaps in four games during his freshman campaign before taking a redshirt.

Louisville will conclude their 2023 season later this month with a matchup against USC in the Holiday Bowl. Kickoff against the Trojans is set for Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 8:00 p.m. EST from Petco Park in San Diego, Calif.
