Louisville S Josh Minkins Enters Transfer Portal
USA TODAY Sports

This story will be updated.

Louisville safety Josh Minkins has entered his name into the transfer portal, he announced Monday on social media. It is unlikely that he will play in Louisville’s upcoming bowl.

"First, I want to thank God for blessing me with the abilities I was gifted to play this game at a high level," Minkins said in a graphic posted to Twitter. "Secondly, I want to thank my family and support system for always being there every step of the way throughout my career. The love and support you have given me since I started playing this game is appreciated and I can't thank you all enough. I love y'all.

"Also want to thank the University of Louisville for giving me an opportunity to pursue my dreams. I was able to accomplish many things and be apart of history here at Louisville."

Minkins is the fifth Cardinal to enter the portal, following defensive end Popeye Williams, defensive end Victoine Brown, cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew and linebacker Jackson Hamilton.

Monday marked the first day of college football’s 30-day winter transfer portal window. Players have until Jan. 2, 2024 to enter the portal for their permitted one-time transfer under current NCAA guidelines.

Louisville will conclude their 2023 season later this month with a matchup against USC in the Holiday Bowl. Kickoff against the Trojans is set for Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 8:00 p.m. EST from Petco Park in San Diego, Calif.
