LSU football players, coaches safe after Hurricane Ida

Hurricane Ida continues to impact the sports world through the start of September, but LSU Tigers football coach Ed Orgeron delivered some positive news on Wednesday. 

According to Alex Scarborough of ESPN, Orgeron told reporters that all players, coaches and family members associated with the football program are safe. However, the storm that caused widespread flooding and knocked power out throughout Louisiana displaced some families who had their homes damaged. 

"Our administration has been trying to help with anyone who has needed help," Orgeron explained. "Everybody's OK. Some of their houses are really damaged. Some are displaced in hotels. For the most part, I think everybody's fine." 

LSU has been allowed to temporarily relocate to Houston for practices ahead of Saturday's road game against the UCLA Bruins. 

Earlier in the week, the aftermath of Hurricane Ida forced a matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and Tulane Green Wave originally scheduled to occur at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans to be relocated to Norman, Okla. 

On Wednesday, it was learned that the NFL's New Orleans Saints will "host" the Green Bay Packers for a Week 1 contest at TIAA Bank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, because that game can't be played in New Orleans.
