The LSU Tigers are looking for a coach to right the ship after firing Brian Kelly earlier this season and are attempting to get Ole Miss Rebels coach Lane Kiffin to jump to their program. While there has been a lot of speculation regarding this, we finally have some idea of what a potential contract offer for the Rebels coach would look like.
Let’s take a deeper dive into what the LSU Tigers reportedly are ready to offer Kiffin and what it means for his chances going forward to make the move to Baton Rouge.
Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellinger is reporting there is an offer that has been blessed by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry that could sway Lane Kiffin to join the LSU Tigers. The reported offer is a seven-year, incentive-laden deal worth at least $90 million. If that were the case, this would have Kiffin at least tied for the highest-paid coach in college football.
The report does not stop at Kiffin’s salary, as it also includes that the school is ready to help with the NIL-related roster investments to make the school a winning program. The offer reportedly includes more than $25 million for the team to get elite players to join the LSU Tigers.
While this does not necessarily mean Lane Kiffin is going to leave the Ole Miss Rebels, this is certainly the Tigers’ attempt of a Godfather offer. While waiting for Kiffin’s response, both LSU and Florida are remaining engaged with other coaching candidates as well. One thing that has also been reported earlier was that LSU is open for Kiffin’s staff to include former Tigers coach Ed Orgeron as a member of the coaching staff.
Landing Lane Kiffin would be a massive boost for the LSU Tigers and this is an offer that could be difficult to pass up. Kiffin has been the coach at Ole Miss since the 2020 season and has recorded a 54-19 record since taking over. The Rebels are expecting Kiffin to wait until after the Egg Bowl next week to make an announcement about his future, so it will be intriguing to see if this makes a move more likely.
