Illinois Football Rallying Behind Luke Altmyer

Illini Quarterback Luke Altmyer exudes a level of self-assurance, that was nonexistent a season ago. Furthermore, Illinois Football fans are taking notice of Altmyer’s improved accuracy and decision-making on the field, and have sparked a high level of confidence in the Junior gunslinger.

Certainly, Luke didn’t light up the stats sheet against a tough Kansas defense. However, he was a game manager against the Jayhawks, putting Illinois in enough positions to pull off the upset. Altmyer concluded the evening going 16 for 25 through the air, totaling 192 yards. Not an explosive performance overall, but, Luke limited mistakes, and got better as the game progressed.

Some beautiful passes to Zakhari Franklin and Pat Bryant gave Illinois offense enough bites at the apple to party out of Memorial Stadium with a 23-17 upset win.

Was it a perfect performance overall? No. Again, Kansas was no cupcake of an opponent at #19 in the nation, with a good defense. However, Luke found a way to continually keep his unit fired up, and in rhythm. Despite some blemishes, like a fumble from Zakhari Franklin early, and shaky offensive line play, the Illini offense never folded. Indeed, we have seen Illinois do that many times in the past, in similar situations, but this time was different.

Certainly, a major testament to the young man leading the way for Illinois Football.

Ultimately, it’s really tough to be a quarterback leading a Power-4 ballclub on the rise. Luke is taking the proper steps, and doing the right things to foster the best version of himself mentally, to improve on the field. Illini fans are excited about their confident quarterback and have gotten behind the Mississippi native. Even Luke’s early doubters, including himself, have taken notice of the exciting talent he possesses.

A New, Confident Luke

“I’ve had a couple of pressers throughout the year, and talked a lot about my mindset, and kind of where I am mentally and spiritually too.” says Altmyer.

Furthermore, he adds “With the help of a lot of great people, and constantly those daily conversations, and daily connections with my creator. You know he’s gifted me, and given me all these talents to go flourish. I’ve kind of realized, and become more aware that man, he’s really gifted me with a lot of talent, and I belong out there, and I really believe that. That confidence just keeps growing.”
