Major College Football Program Now Has Five Receivers In Transfer Portal

The No. 6 seed Penn State Nittany Lions made headlines during their College Football Playoff semifinal loss to No. 7 Notre Dame because their offense did not complete any passes to their wide receivers in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

Quarterback Drew Allar completed 12 passes, but every reception was allotted to tight ends and running backs, with TE Tyler Warren leading the team with six catches for 75 yards.

The Nittany Lions' leading receiver in 2024, Harrison "Trey" Wallace III announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday. The 6-foot-1, 199-pound receiver collected 46 catches for 720 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Wallace is the 11th player and fifth wide receiver to exit the Nittany Lions via the transfer portal this offseason. He joins Feyisayo Oluleye, Jason Estrella, Tyler Johnson and Omari Evans to leave Penn State, although none have committed elsewhere yet.

Wallace finished well behind Warren, PSU's leading pass-catcher, who compiled 104 receptions for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns, plus 218 rushing yards and another four touchdowns on the ground.

The Pike Road, Alabama native committed to Penn State in the 2021 recruiting class. A four-star recruit and among the top 250 in his class, Wallace chose PSU over Duke, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and others.

Head coach James Franklin has secured two receiver commitments from the transfer portal this offseason: Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy).

Hudson earned 38 catches for 462 yards and three touchdowns for USC. Ross had 76 receptions for 1,043 yards and 11 touchdowns for Troy in 2024.
