The 2026 NFL Draft is right around the corner, and we've got you covered with in-depth scouting reports for all of this year's top prospects.

USC's Makai Lemon is one of the top wide receivers in this year's class, with a complete skill set and big-play ability that outweighs his lack of ideal size. He put up huge numbers for the Trojans last season, taking home the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the top wide receiver in college football.

Here's everything NFL fans need to know about Lemon heading into this year's draft:

Age: 21

Makai Lemon's Strengths

If you want to call this guy “undersized,” do so at your own peril. Lemon may be under six feet tall and less than 200 pounds, but he plays with the tenacity and physicality you’d expect from a much bigger receiver. He’s a sharp route-runner who challenges opposing defensive backs with the precision of his breaks, and he’s got the hands, body control and leaping ability to consistently win 50/50 balls despite his size disadvantage. He’s a big-play machine, whether he’s stretching the field vertically or exploding away from would-be tacklers after the catch, routinely breaking through arm tackles and surprising defenders with his ability to play through contact. His football IQ and playmaking instincts allow him to set up blocks and expose blind spots in coverage, and his impressive blend of physical and mental traits make him a dangerous return man.

Makai Lemon's Weaknesses

Lemon’s lack of size and shorter arms do present some challenges, particularly when trying to beat press coverage at the line of scrimmage against bigger defensive backs with longer wingspans. Sharpening his hand usage and footwork to improve his releases would help mitigate his shortcomings, and allow him more alignment versatility at the next level. He’s a willing participant as a downfield blocker, but needs to improve his technique.

Final Analysis

If you still think a smaller receiver can’t be a true No. 1 target, Lemon is the kind of prospect who should change your mind. He’s got the explosiveness, hands, and route-running chops to threaten opposing defenses at every level, and his high-effort style of play is what every coach and teammate wants in their huddle. His big-play ability should be welcome in any NFL offense, but he would be particularly dangerous if paired with a traditional X receiver that would offer him plenty of 1-on-1 opportunities on the opposite side.
