Malik Vann Suffers Season-Ending Injury; Will Pauling Possibly Out Multiple Weeks
USA TODAY Sports

CINCINNATI — UC defensive end Malik Vann suffered a season-ending injury in Saturday's 63-10 win over Kennesaw State.

Head coach Luke Fickell unveiled the news on his weekly radio show that the graduate student suffered a torn pectoral muscle and will miss the rest of the year. The coach also announced wide receiver Will Pauling is likely to miss a few weeks with an MCL injury.

Vann is using his pandemic bonus year this season and should be eligible for a medical redshirt if he applies for one. He's posted 90 tackles (21 for loss), with eight sacks and two forced fumbles in 42 career games.

UC should use a mix of Noah Potter, Justin Wodtly, Eric Phillips, and possibly more to fill Vann's role the rest of the season.

Pauling is fifth on the team in catches. His absence should open up more opportunities for Nick Mardner and Chris Scott.
