Notre Dame has had a very healthy run through spring football practice over the last two-plus weeks. Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman updated a handful of injuries after Saturday’s ninth practice of the spring. One stood out above the rest in its magnitude.
“Guerby Lambert had shoulder surgery to repair a (shoulder) labrum,” Freeman explained. “He’s expected back in the fall.”
Freeman gave no other context to the details of the injury. Lambert is a rising sophomore offensive lineman who has taken reps at both left tackle and right tackle this spring. The 6-7, 334-pound Boston, Mass native was working this spring to try to take over at one of those positions after appearing in six games as a reserve during his true freshman season last fall.
Another player suffered a minor injury during Saturday’s practice when running back Jeremiyah Love went to the turf during a live play. He got up and took a few steps before going down again holding his right leg.
“J-Love had a hamstring today in practice,” Freeman said. “We took him out of practice just to be smart right there. But I don’t think it’s serious, but we’ll get a full report after he sees the docs and go from there.”
Freeman also confirmed a previously reported injury to wide receiver Micah Gilbert. The rising sophomore injured his hand early in spring practice and had surgery to repair it. He will be out for the remainder of the spring.
