Max Brosmer reportedly visits Gophers as Fleck watches Arkansas prep commit

While Brosmer was reportedly on campus, his visit may have occurred with one important absence in Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck, who was in Arkansas visiting high school commit Drake Lindsey.

Lindsey has been a focal point of the Gophers 2024 recruiting class as he set an Arkansas Class 7A record with 52 touchdown passes this season. After throwing for 355 yards and a touchdown to help Fayetteville win the state title on Saturday, Lindsey continues to be a target for all programs despite his verbal commitment to Minnesota.

This includes Lindsey's hometown Arkansas Razorbacks, whose grandfather Jim starred on the 1964 national championship team and played seven years for the Minnesota Vikings. 

While the Razorbacks didn't show interest in the three-star recruit, SI FanNation High School Reporter Steve Andrews theorized that this week's hire of Bobby Petrino as Arkansas' new offensive coordinator could lead to one last push for Lindsey to stay.

"Lindsey is more of a pro-style quarterback, with stout size and a strong, accurate arm, to fire the ball downfield, whereas Arkansas has been running more of a dual-threat spread-attack offense over recent years," Andrews explained. "But now, with Petrino’s offense utilizing more of a pro-style scheme, Lindsey could be the prototype operator, much like Petrino’s earlier pupils at Arkansas, Ryan Mallett and Tyler Wilson."

With the threat of an SEC school looming, it makes sense that Fleck would jump on the first flight to Fayetteville to visit his prized recruit. But it also leads to some intrigue with Brosmer, who is looking to make the jump to a Power Five program.

Brosmer led the FCS with 3,459 passing yards while throwing for 29 touchdowns and six interceptions this season. The junior figures to have a clear path to a starting job at Minnesota after Athan Kaliakmanis announced his decision to transfer last week.

Minnesota has offered Brosmer a scholarship and his reported visit feels like a step in the right direction. But the Gophers need someone to play quarterback next season and the path to find one will be one to monitor in the coming weeks.
