Member of Jalen Hurts, Nick Bosa recruiting class returning to college for 2024 season

As 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa gears up for his fourth divisional-round playoff game, another member of the 2016 recruiting class, tight end Cam McCormick, just announced he's returning to Miami for a record ninth year of college football.

Other members of the 2016 recruiting class include quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receivers A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf, and defensive tackles Derrick Brown, Dexter Lawrence, Ed Oliver and Quinnen Williams.

Originally an Oregon recruit, multiple injuries, including a broken ankle and torn Achilles, and the COVID-19 pandemic afforded McCormick extra years of eligibility. Primarily a blocking tight end, McCormick has 26 career receptions for 231 yards and four touchdowns. After only appearing in 10 games from 2016-21, he's played in every game the past two seasons.

With the addition of quarterback Cam Ward in the transfer portal, McCormick will likely have his best opportunity to be a consistent offensive target during the upcoming season.

Even if he doesn't reach new heights in 2024, no one can question his dedication to the sport. While his nine years of eligibility are eye-popping, as long as he's a member of the student body, there's no reason he shouldn't be allowed to play.
