Miami lands notable new transfer QB
Reese Poffenbarger Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Miami has been aggressively pursuing a quarterback via the transfer portal in recent weeks, and they have finally landed one.

Former Albany star quarterback Reese Poffenbarger told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Monday that he has transferred to Miami. He is expected to be able to play immediately and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Poffenbarger led FCS this season in passing yards with 3,603 and touchdowns with 36. He said he chose Miami so he could “put myself in the best position to compete for a national championship and one day play in the NFL.”

Miami recently hosted top transfer quarterbacks Will Howard and Cam Ward. Howard announced last week that he has chosen Ohio State, while Ward is entering the NFL Draft.

Poffenbarger will compete with sophomore Jacurri Brown and freshman Emory Williams for the starting job with the Hurricanes.

Miami finished a 7-6 season with a loss to Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl. They went 5-7 in their first year under head coach Mario Cristobal in 2022. The Hurricanes are hoping to make a much bigger leap next season.
