The Miami Hurricanes have lost a player less than 24 hours after losing the national championship game.

Hurricanes quarterback Emory Williams is entering the transfer portal and will have two seasons of eligibility left. Williams was the backup to Carson Beck this season for the Canes. He saw action in five games and went 13/19 for 156 yards, as Beck took the majority of the snaps for Miami’s offense.

Williams has been at Miami for three seasons. He has passed for 813 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions during his college career. He mostly saw action this season during blowouts.

ESPN reporter Pete Thamel says Williams is expected to transfer to East Carolina.

The Pirates went 9-4 this season. Their quarterback the last two seasons has been Katin Houser, a transfer from Michigan State. Houser passed for 3,300 yards with 19 touchdowns in the 2025 season, and it seems likely that Williams will be replacing him.
