The Miami Hurricanes' passing attack became one of the best in the nation last season at times because of the leadership and strong play of stars like Cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo.
Mario Cristobal's stellar season hit the skids with three losses in their last four games including a 42-41 defeat at the hands of the Iowa State Cyclones in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, casting doubt over the NFL futures of some of its best players.
On Monday, Hurricanes wide receiver Xavier Restrepo ran two 40-yard dash times believed to be in the 4.7-5.1 range each, prompting a media firestorm and a post from Restrepo on Tuesday revealing new information about what happened.
"Don't usually do this but I feel like it's necessary due to the circumstances," Restrpo said in an X post on Tuesday.
"During warm ups yesterday before the 40, my right hamstring tightened up on me and prohibited me to opening up and running my fastest.
"The reason I still ran is because for 2 straight weeks I consistently hit 4.53-4.58 last in training and thought I could still pull it off.
"I did everything just because it's in my blood to compete. With that being said, I am now focusing on getting back to 100% healthy and getting ready to play football!
"Ready to let God take over!"
Restrepo caught 69 passes for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns last season with Ward at the helm of the Canes' offense.
