When Micah Hudson re-entered the transfer portal last week, it felt like a foregone conclusion that he’d end up back in Lubbock with Texas Tech.
Then, hours after he officially entered the portal, several members of the 247Sports crew suggested that it was a long shot.
“I think the most likely scenario is that [Micah Hudson] ends up in, essentially, a ‘prove-it’ situation,” Matt Zenitz said. “I don’t know where that’s going to be yet, but Micah went to Texas A&M, and it became clear prety quickly that he most likely wasn’t going to be back with the team. Now, he’s officially in the portal and as of today, there is a slim chance that he could maybe reunite with Texas Tech, which he originally signed with as a top ten recruit.
“Right now, I view that as unlikely, which I think Chris [Hummer] would agree with me, he can correct me if I’m off-base on that, but either way, regardless of where it is, I do think that Micah ends up in a ‘prove-it’ type deal.”
Chris Hummer chimed in with similar feelings on the situation, saying that he’d be surprised if it’s in Lubbock.
“I think Micah’s still gonna be a guy that ends up on the Power Four level and will have his opportunities, but I would also be surprised, based on what I’ve heard, if he ends up back at Texas Tech, even though the possibility isn’t necessarily off the table,” Hummer added.
Then, after taking a trip to Salt Lake City to visit with Utah, it appeared that Hudson might end up back in the Big 12, just not with his former team.
However, on Monday, the narrative changed when On3’s Steve Wiltfong entered a prediction for the former five-star wideout to land back with his former team.

Hudson spent just a matter of weeks with Texas A&M before leaving the program and now has a chance to follow the same path that we saw Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor take in last year’s cycle.
Hudson played eight games for Texas Tech this past season, but struggled to make an impact for the Red Raiders, finishing with just eight catches for 123 yards. Should he return to Lubbock, Hudson will have a chance to shine with a roster that was vastly improved over the offseason.
With comparisons to players like Garrett Wilson out of high school, Hudson has a chance to be a true game-changer for the Red Raiders if he can earn an expanded role in 2025.
If that happens, and a few other new additions work out, there’s probably not a team in the Big 12 equipped to stand toe-to-toe with what Texas Tech has on its roster.
