Micah Hudson Saga Comes to an End with Return to Texas Tech
Annie Rice/Avalanche-Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK

When Micah Hudson re-entered the transfer portal last week, it felt like a foregone conclusion that he’d end up back in Lubbock with Texas Tech.

That was confirmed on Sunday afternoon, with Hudson announcing his return to Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

“Lubbock has always been home, and I’m forever grateful to the Coaching staff, teammates, and fans who make that experience possible,” Hudson said. “I’m back to finish what I started. This experience taught me a lot about myself and what it truly means to be a part of the Texas Tech family. God Bless! Wreck ‘Em, Micah Hudson.”

On Monday, the possibility of Hudson returning to Lubbock started to become a reality when On3’s Steve Wiltfong and several others entered predictions for the former five-star wideout to land back with his former team.

Hudson spent just a matter of weeks with Texas A&M before leaving the program, and chose to follow the same path that we saw Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor take in last year’s cycle.

Hudson played eight games for Texas Tech this past season, but struggled to make an impact for the Red Raiders, finishing with just eight catches for 123 yards. With his return to Lubbock, Hudson will have a chance to shine with a roster that was vastly improved over the offseason.

How a cat is rejuvenating this MAC football program

While the Bowling Green Falcons have experienced mediocrity in recent years, there’s a new wave of energy surrounding the program. And no, it’s not because former Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George is the new head coach. Say hello to Pudge. The British shorthair Persian cat belongs to long snapper George Carlson, who brought Pudge into the locker room after a particularly arduous day at practice in August. Upon doing so, wide receiver Finn Hogan posted a video on social media captioned: “Fall camp so rough we got a locker room cat.” Almost instantly, the video of Pudge garnered millions of views across social media, and even the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions took notice on TikTok. Players and coaches within the facility happily welcomed Pudge, as the furry friend puts smiles on people’s faces and gets the players pumped up. Even George, who is allergic to cats, often finds himself petting the feline companion. Of course, it helps that George’s wife and children adore Pudge too. The positive vibe around Pudge has also translated to the games. Bowling Green is off to its best start in 11 years at 2-1 and attendance has skyrocketed, partially due to fans wanting to see their beloved pet celebrity. In Week 3, the Falcons hosted their largest crowd in 10 years during an upset victory over Liberty. Even on the road, Pudge travels with the team as he secured an all-access pass during the Falcons’ trip to Cincinnati in Week 2. Off the field, the cat has his own security detail and has signed his very own NIL deal, as Pudge jerseys, hoodies and shirts have been flying off the shelves. Pudge will be credentialed on the sideline during Bowling Green’s upcoming contest at Louisville, as the furry icon continues to be one of college football’s best feel-good stories in 2025.

Concerning report emerges about Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin's health

The Washington Capitals began their first day of training camp with an injury scare, as star left winger Alexander Ovechkin left practice early with a lower-body injury. Alexander Ovechkin addresses the media It wasn't immediately clear if the injury affected the same leg that Ovechkin broke last year, when a fractured fibula cost the Capitals captain 16 games. The injury was not severe enough to restrict Ovechkin from speaking to reporters following Thursday's practice. Per NHL.com's Tom Gulitti, Ovechkin sounded "unconcerned" about his lower-body injury, but he added that the Capitals captain might not skate on Friday when training camp resumes. Gulitti added that Washington head coach Spencer Carbery called the decision "precautionary" to take Ovechkin off the ice. Ovechkin, who turned 40 on Wednesday, enters the 2025 season as the NHL's all-time leading goal-scorer with 897 tallies. When asked if he is approaching this season as if it would be his last, Ovechkin said he didn't know. Ovechkin is also the NHL's all-time leader in regular-season power-play goals (326), game-winning goals (136) and shots on net (6,864). Depending on the severity of this injury, Capitals fans may have to wait to watch Ovechkin continue padding those totals and try to lead the Caps to their second Stanley Cup.

Insider Claims Steelers Are Furious With Former 2nd-Round Pick

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot to prove to fans and media pundits alike as a Week 3 contest against the New England Patriots approaches. One of the main concerns thus far has been the defensive front not being able to stop the run. Through two games, the unit has allowed 149.5 yards per game, which is an absolutely ridiculous number for a defense that is labeled as the highest-paid in the NFL. The organization won't have a chance to be competitive in an AFC full of firepower unless Teryl Austin's unit can figure out how to stop opposing offenses. An asterisk can be put next to the first two matchups because rookie first-round selection, Derrick Harmon, hasn't had the opportunity to play, but what has been the most worrisome has been the individuals filling in for him that haven't been able to perform at an encouraging level. One of those players is Keeanu Benton, a former second-round pick who has not blossomed into the player that the team wanted him to be. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo appeared on a practice report show with the Patriots game on the horizon, and went into some more detail about the defensive line. While the team is high on the other rookie in Yahya Black, Dulac noted that there are some real concerns internally about what has happened with Benton over the years. "The key is being able to be physical and be aggressive, but still being able to make the play, and that's what they're hoping to see from [Yahya] Black," Dulac said. "You know, they really like this guy and he's only going to improve in time. The converse of that Ray, and you mentioned Keeanu Benton, was told to me from inside the building, that they actually think he's regressed." There is not a single member of the Steelers' coaching staff or front office that can be pleased if the feeling is that Benton is getting worse. Spending a second-round selection on a member of the front seven on defense is supposed to provide stability, but it has done the exact opposite. It shouldn't surprise anyone if Benton begins to see the field less and less, while Black finds more opportunities to show that he should be playing more often. It's not time to hit the panic button yet in Pittsburgh, but many are very close to doing so. If the run defense continues to get shredded on the ground, there are not going to be many chances to stop any offense that is on the other side of the ball. The Steelers also preach winning the time of possession, something that will be extremely difficult to do if running backs are having their respective ways with Pittsburgh's front seven. It would be exciting to see Harmon and Black in action together. It's possible that they could be the future on the defensive line for the Steelers. Benton's regression can't be looked at as positive in any way, so Dulac's words hint at the very possible fact that the franchise is not happy with the University of Wisconsin graduate. Austin and co. won't tolerate a player getting worse, and then performing poorly on top of it. Steelers Won't Last In The AFC North With Poor Rushing Defense All teams within Pittsburgh's division have capable rushing attacks, even the Cleveland Browns now that rookie Quinshon Judkins is in the fold. It is imperative that the defense in the Steel City figures out how to stop the run, as it will lead to more passing attempts and a better chance to get to quarterbacks. It shouldn't come as a shock if Benton is soon watching from the sidelines more so than he is playing on the field.

Bears veteran Grady Jarrett responds to Ben Johnson’s practice habits critique

The Chicago Bears are 0-2 to begin the 2025 NFL season and the new era with head coach Ben Johnson. The Bears lost a heartbreaker in Week 1 to the Minnesota Vikings, 27-24, in Chicago. Week 2 was much, much worse, as the Detroit Lions – Johnson’s former employer- blew the Bears out with a 52-21 final score. Johnson is not happy early on, and he held nothing back while discussing the Bears’ practice habits. “Our practice habits are yet to reflect a championship caliber team,” Johnson said ahead of Week 3. Well, veteran defensive lineman Grady Jarrett heard that feedback and had a response on Thursday, via CHGO Bears. “As a coach, you always want to challenge them to be better. We always want to put our best foot forward…Up to this point, we haven’t won a game,” Jarrett said. “He our head coach, he our leader, and if he said it wasn’t good enough, then we had to answer the call.” The Week 2 loss was so lopsided that Caleb Williams was removed in the fourth quarter in a surprising turn of events. Still, Johnson made his feelings clear about the way the team has practiced so far this season. Jarrett, on the other hand, is a veteran end who entered the thing in 2015, and he took the high road and showed support for his head coach despite the comments. In Week 3, the Bears face the Dallas Cowboys at home, which will be a tough test. It will be interesting to see how the team responds, especially after the new head coach just threw his players under the bus not even one month into the regular season. After that, the Bears face the Las Vegas Raiders on the road before a Week 5 bye, and the hope is that Chicago can find a way to get a victory sooner rather than later.
