Micah Hudson Saga Comes to an End with Return to Texas Tech
Annie Rice/Avalanche-Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK

When Micah Hudson re-entered the transfer portal last week, it felt like a foregone conclusion that he’d end up back in Lubbock with Texas Tech.

That was confirmed on Sunday afternoon, with Hudson announcing his return to Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

“Lubbock has always been home, and I’m forever grateful to the Coaching staff, teammates, and fans who make that experience possible,” Hudson said. “I’m back to finish what I started. This experience taught me a lot about myself and what it truly means to be a part of the Texas Tech family. God Bless! Wreck ‘Em, Micah Hudson.”

On Monday, the possibility of Hudson returning to Lubbock started to become a reality when On3’s Steve Wiltfong and several others entered predictions for the former five-star wideout to land back with his former team.

Hudson spent just a matter of weeks with Texas A&M before leaving the program, and chose to follow the same path that we saw Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor take in last year’s cycle.

Hudson played eight games for Texas Tech this past season, but struggled to make an impact for the Red Raiders, finishing with just eight catches for 123 yards. With his return to Lubbock, Hudson will have a chance to shine with a roster that was vastly improved over the offseason.

Ryan Day's quote about defending national title goes viral

Ohio State is looking to win back-to-back national championships for the first time in program history, but Ryan Day does not feel that the Buckeyes are embarking on a title defense. Day spoke with reporters at Big Ten media days on Tuesday about the importance of his 2025 Ohio State team forming its own identity. The coach said he does not feel that the Buckeyes are defending a national championship since there is no way to take the 2024 title away from them. Instead, Day says his players are "looking to attack." "The team that we have currently wants to leave their own legacy behind, and they made that clear a week after the national championship game (with) some of the comments that they made," Day said. "We've said it before: We're not defending national champions because we're not defending anything. They can't take the trophy away. We're looking to attack and win a championship with this team." Day faced some criticism prior to last season for not being able to beat Michigan, but he quieted most — if not all — of that by winning a national championship. The Buckeyes were ranked behind Penn State in USA Today's preseason Big Ten power rankings this week, so Day should be able to use that as motivation. Ohio State will have a new quarterback this season after Will Howard left for the NFL. There will be several new starters at other key positions as well. When you think of it that way, it makes sense that Day's players view themselves as "attacking" rather than defending a past achievement.

Emerging Texans star likely to miss 2025 season

Texans wide receiver Tank Dell is likely to miss the entire 2025 season as he continues his recovery from last year’s brutal knee injury, according to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson. Dell dislocated his knee and tore his ACL, MCL and LCL in a Week 16 loss to the Chiefs in December. With such a severe injury, Houston’s focus is on Dell’s health and long-term career outlook. The team wants him to get healthy rather than rushing back to play this year. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said (via Wilson) that Dell is “crushing the rehab,” but declined to offer a specific timeline. His comments hinted that the team is not counting on Dell to return this season. Injuries were always the biggest concern surrounding Dell. His 5-foot-7, 165-pound frame was already undersized by college standards; in the NFL, it’s minuscule. Sitting out this season will set up a major contract year in 2026. Dell will need to prove that he is back at full health and can remain there for an entire season while maintaining his production. Dell was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, along with teammates Trent Brown and Jimmie Ward.

Pirates Targeting Yankees Top Prospect in Trade

The Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees are primed to wheel and deal ahead of the July 31 MLB trade deadline. The Pirates have what the Yankees need: starting pitching (Mitch Keller), third basemen (Ke'Bryan Hayes and Isiah Kiner-Falefa) and bullpen relief (David Bednar and Dennis Santana). So what is it the Yankees would have to surrender in a potential deal with the Pirates? "The most ambitious target, which would almost certainly only come in a deal that includes Keller, is switch-hitting outfielder Jasson Dominguez," the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Noah Hiles wrote Wednesday. "Rated the top prospect in the Yankees system and No. 16 in all of baseball last year by MLB Pipeline, Dominguez, 22, is off to a solid rookie year, boasting an above-average OPS and a 0.7 bWAR. "If not Dominguez, middle infield prospect George Lombard Jr. or 6-foot-7 outfielder Spencer Jones, who hit 10 homers in his first 16 games in Triple-A, are a few other desirable targets," Hiles added. "Should the deal be centered around a rental player, or even Bednar or Santana, right-hander Cam Schlittler could be an intriguing pitching project." Lombard, the Yankees' No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline (and No. 34 overall), is all but untouchable. The 20-year-old middle infielder is hitting .210 in 61 games with the Double-A Somerset Patriots. Jones, 24, is perhaps the hottest hitter down on the farm. The Yankees' No. 3 prospect is hitting .408 with 10 home runs in 17 games with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Schlitter, the Yankees' No. 11 prospect, is 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA in two starts with the Yankees. The 24-year-old right-hander landed in the Bronx after Clarke Schmidt went down with an arm injury requiring season-ending Tommy John surgery. As for Dominguez, the 22-year-old is hitting .254 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs in 83 games this season for the Yankees. At the end of the day, Cashman has to decide which prospects he is willing to trade in order to improve the club's roster down the stretch, and how much is too much for what the Pirates have to offer. Steelers' Jalen Ramsey Takes A Bold Shot At His Former Teams

Steelers' Jalen Ramsey Takes A Bold Shot At His Former Teams

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially kicked off their training camp, and there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the team. After a busy and eventful offseason up to this point, everyone is eager to see how this newly revamped roster comes together. The organization made a number of significant moves, bringing in fresh faces and top talent across multiple positions. With all the recent changes, the new players are equally excited about the upcoming season and the promising direction the franchise is heading. One of those new additions is veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Having played for several teams throughout his career, Ramsey spoke to the media during training camp and shared how excited he is to be part of the Steelers organization. In doing so, he also took a jab at some of his former teams, making it clear he sees Pittsburgh as an upgrade. The Steelers are one of the most historic franchises in NFL history, known for their grit, hard work, toughness, and strong sense of tradition. These qualities are a major reason why so many players are drawn to playing in Pittsburgh. That pride was clear in the reactions of the new additions, many of whom spoke highly about joining the team, with most recently Ramsey, and being part of what the organization is building. Although this could be seen as a subtle jab at his former teams, it also highlights the genuine excitement surrounding this new Steelers roster. Recently, there have been reports raising some concerns about Ramsey’s locker room presence. However, team chemistry and unity are crucial in any team sport, and if Ramsey’s passion can be channeled positively, it could bring great energy and leadership to the Steelers' locker room. Ramsey brings not only elite talent, but also a wealth of experience to the Steelers’ secondary. Earlier this offseason, the team added another standout cornerback in Darius Slay, and now with the addition of Ramsey, the secondary has more experience and more depth. Adding veteran players with different skill sets and perspectives can help elevate the entire unit. The way Ramsey performs on the field, and carries himself off of it, could have a lasting impact on the franchise’s culture and success. Slay has already expressed his excitement to mentor younger players like Joey Porter Jr., and if Ramsey follows a similar path, the Steelers could be setting the foundation for a strong and well-rounded secondary for years to come. With the influx of new talent, the expectations for on-field performance have grown significantly. Much like Ramsey, many of the Steelers’ offseason additions are seasoned veterans, showing that the team is aiming for immediate impact. While these experienced players can certainly provide valuable leadership and help shape the next generation, the organization is also focused on turning that leadership into real results, winning games this upcoming season. The Steelers have several players nearing the end of their careers and are determined to change the narrative of recent seasons. While the team has consistently made the playoffs, their recent postseason appearances have ended in early and disappointing first-round exits. One of the team’s clear goals is to make a deeper playoff run, and with the new additions to the roster, there’s a renewed sense of hope that this specific group of guys can help make that happen. The Steelers Want To Continue To Be Historic The Steelers' postseason luck needs to change if they hope to maintain their reputation as one of the NFL’s most historic and successful franchises. While Head Coach Mike Tomlin holds the remarkable record of never having a losing season, the expectations in Pittsburgh go beyond regular season success, it's about making deeper playoff runs and competing for championships. Building a winning team involves many moving parts, but if Ramsey can channel his passion into positive energy and continue performing at a high level, he’ll be taking the first step in making a real impact.
