Big Ten Football Media Days took place last week, and fall practices begin this week for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The season is officially right around the corner.

Ohio State will open with a tough matchup against Texas, a rematch of last season’s Cotton Bowl, which the Buckeyes won 28-14.

Coming off a national championship, the Buckeyes must now refocus on their biggest challenge that they can’t cross: beating Michigan. After four straight losses to the Wolverines, Ryan Day is under pressure to get past that blemish. Star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith recently made it clear—he doesn’t plan on losing to Michigan again.

“I’m not a sore loser, but I hate losing, and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy,” Smith said via The Athletic. “In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn’t come to Ohio State to lose to that team up north. I just hate them. There’s just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can’t lose to them in the next two years.”

With a statement like that from Smith, it didn’t take long for a response to come from the Michigan side.

Michigan senior Derrick Moore responds to Jeremiah Smith

“I ain’t really got no reaction to it,” Moore said when asked about Smith’s remarks. “All I can say to that is, see y’all in November. If that’s how he feel, that’s how he can feel. But when November comes around and it’s time to play, we’re gonna see then.”

Ohio State fell 13-10 to Michigan last season, with Smith scoring the Buckeyes’ lone touchdown. While the Buckeyes went on one of the most dominant postseason runs in college football history, expectations in Columbus remain the same: beat Michigan. Now, all eyes will be on Smith to back up his promise—one Michigan is definitely aware of.
