Today, Michigan football — led by head coach Jim Harbaugh and three player representatives — will be taking to the podium for Big Ten Media Day in Indianapolis, IN. For the Wolverines, today is the unofficial start of the 2023 season, with fall camp starting early next month. Here are three things to keep an eye out for during today’s media coverage.

How are the Michigan football freshmen looking so far?

This year’s Michigan football team has some incredible freshman stars waiting in the wings. While the opportunities may be limited, seeing as this year’s roster is deep and talented, there will undoubtedly be a number of top freshmen who see quite a bit of action for the Maize and Blue. One top freshman star is thought to be running back Benjamin Hall, a bowling ball out of the backfield who has been impressive thus far and will look to find a significant role on the offense this fall.

For Michigan’s Big Ten Media Day segment, expect to learn more about these freshmen and what they bring to the table.

Which transfer portal additions are going to step up the most?

At this point in the year, the Michigan football coaching staff has seen their new transfer portal additions in action for quite some time. Now, with the 2023 season looming, expect more clarity on which transfers will start, as well as who the staff thinks will be its top transfer contributors.

Ernest Hausmann, AJ Barner, Josaiah Stewart, Drake Nugent, and LaDarius Henderson are some of the top names that come to mind right off the bat.

Offensive and defensive identity

While the Michigan football defense had a “no-star” identity in 2022, this year’s squad looks as talented as ever and could be one of the best parts of the Wolverines as a whole. On offense, Michigan has a very good problem — who will get the most touches, and how will Sherrone Moore balance the offense?

Breakout players, potential role players, and more should become clearer for the defense today, as well as some major questions about the offense being addressed. With JJ McCarthy entering a massive development phase and two of the nation’s best running backs, offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore says he wants more balance — that said, we will see what Jim Harbaugh and Blake Corum have to say when they hit the podium.
