Michigan football has a lot of work to do in the 2025 class. However, the Wolverines have recruited much better than some are giving them credit for.

It’s also very early. It’s not even June yet. Michigan football has done a lot of its work over the summer and as the last week showed us with all the transfer portal additions, Sherrone Moore wasn’t bluffing when he said Michigan would be more aggressive on the recruiting trail.

It remains to be seen what that means for high school prospects, but Moore has landed a commitment from a top-100 EDGE, plus a four-star offensive lineman ranked as one of the best players in Michigan.

The Wolverines are now trying to add some elite talent at cornerback. One name emerging is former Ohio State commitment Blake Woodby.

Michigan football pushing for top-100 cornerback

Woodby is ranked 67th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s 5-foot-10, 175 pounds and recently decommitted from the Buckeyes, who have a loaded class of corners. Michigan football has had plenty of success recruiting at St. Frances which is where Blake Corum and Derrick Moore played.

That could be a factor but pushing in this recruitment makes a lot of sense for Michigan football and the Wolverines have been in contact with Woodby according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine.

Lamar Morgan, the secondary coach, has had a good week in the transfer portal. Now, it’s time to land some talent in high school recruiting and Woodby would be perfect. Auburn and Florida just offered. Oregon and Georgia are listed as “warm” according to his 247 Sports profile.

The first hurdle for Michigan football is getting Woodby on campus. He visited Auburn this spring but no other program except OSU. The Wolverines need to get him on campus for a visit this summer, and maybe a couple of times. That’s how Michigan can start becoming a factor and until that happens, it will be hard to view the Wolverines as a serious contender.
