The chase for the top running back in the 2026 recruiting is coming down to its final four with official visit season here. Five-star Virginia playmaker Savion Hiter has one of the most heated recruiting battles in the nation, and Michigan is right in the fight.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder locked in his four official visits this summer, so the next month of action could bring a commitment ahead of the fall. Michigan will be third on his travel map.
The Wolverines will square off with Ohio State, Georgia, and Tennessee. Hiter is expected to be in Ann Arbor between June 13 and 15.
BREAKING: Elite 2026 RB Savion Hiter is down to 4️⃣ Schools, he tells me for @on3recruits

The No. 1 RB in ‘26 has locked in OVs to each of his finalists:
• Ohio State- May 30-June 1
• Georgia- June 6-8
• Michigan- June 13-15
• Tennessee- June 19-22https://t.co/VKtLd1LZEN pic.twitter.com/KdXp8DjkTd
Projections on where Hiter will select has been split. On3's Chad Simmons flipped his pick from Michigan to Ohio State recently.
“Michigan has been considered the team to beat, and they still are at or near the top, but I like Ohio State here coming off spring visits to multiple schools. A lot could rest on the official visits, and Georgia and Tennessee are involved, but this is likely to come down to the Big Ten programs in Ann Arbor and Columbus. The Vols have to be looked at seriously as well. The meetings on official visits are expected to play a major role in the commitment.”
Steve Wiltfong isn't ready to flip, yet, though. He still thinks this is Sherrone Moore's prospect to lose.
“Michigan, but I think that Ohio State had a great visit this spring. Georgia and Tennessee are obviously in the picture, too, but I like the Wolverines at the top for Hiter with the Buckeyes also pushing.”
With Bryce Underwood serving as the new face of the program, the Wolverines have a unique starpower as a recruiter. Moore would score a huge win to net Hiter from the Buckeyes, in particular.
Here's his scouting report from Charles Power of On3:
Gifted runner with an advanced blend of athleticism, fluidity, and instincts as a high school underclassman. Physically developed, measuring in at over 5-foot-11 and around 200 pounds prior to his senior season. Registers as a strong athlete, running an 11.11 second mark in the 100-meters as a freshman. Also jumped close to 45 feet in the triple jump - an outstanding mark. Turned multiple dominant seasons as a high school underclassman, including a 1,698-yard, 26-touchdown junior campaign that saw him run for 10.8 yards per carry. Looks to be a natural runner. An extremely fluid and smooth mover who changes directions effortlessly. Shows excellent acceleration. Cuts on a dime and makes defenders miss in space. Runs with pace and instincts. A strong tackle-breaker who runs through contact due to a strong leg drive. A phenomenal high school football player who also makes big plays on defense. Has the potential and upside to be one of the best running back prospects in several cycles.
