Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has made headlines recently for his bold comments about the Michigan rivalry. Smith vowed to not lose to Michigan again while he is in Columbus.
“I’m not a sore loser, but I hate losing—and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy,” Smith told The Athletic. “In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn’t come to Ohio State to lose to that team up north. I just hate them. There’s just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can’t lose to them in the next two years.”

Smith’s passionate remarks caught the attention of Michigan graduate and sports analyst Rich Eisen. After reading the quote in full on his show, Eisen had just one word in response:
“Noted,” he said, pretending to jot it down in a notebook.
Michigan has beaten Ohio State in four straight matchups, including last season’s 13–10 victory—where Smith scored the Buckeyes’ only touchdown. Despite that loss, Ohio State went on a historic playoff run and captured the national title, easing some of the sting from the Michigan defeat.
Still, for head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, ending the losing streak against Michigan remains a top priority. Urban Meyer never lost to the Wolverines during his tenure, and the Buckeyes have now dropped four straight in the rivalry.
As for Eisen, his response isn’t surprising—he’ll continue with the snark until Ohio State proves itself once again in The Game.
