Michigan HC Sherrone Moore hypes up five-star QB recruit Bryce Underwood

The Michigan Wolverines feel they got a massive win on the recruiting trail when Bryce Underwood, five-star quarterback from Belleville, Michigan, signed on the dotted line on National Signing Day.

It's hard to argue with their logic, either. Underwood was the consensus No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class and for much of the cycle, he was committed to LSU. Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines used NIL to their advantage and were able to secure a last-minute flip from Underwood and now he's going to be staying near home to play college football for the Wolverines.

It's understandable, but Moore seems ecstatic about his new quarterback protege.

He’s as good as any high school quarterback I’ve seen play football,” Moore stated on the "Andy & Ari On3" show on Thursday. “From a throwing aspect? Throwing out of the pocket, dropping back. He hasn’t done much under center but wants to and can. From a running aspect? He can run it. He can do everything you want. He’s super smart. He’s super intuitive. He’s got great touch. He’s got great, you know, arm strength and everything you want.”

The Wolverines cobbled together an offense with Davis Warren and Alex Orji for much of the season so having a sure-bet quarterback will be a luxury for Michigan. That's assuming Underwood will be ready to play as a freshman next season, though, which is no guarantee.

Like with any young player, Moore and the Wolverines will have to get him game ready, and that can take some time.

"Obviously, it’s going to take time for him to learn,” Moore said. “We’ll have a process in place to get him prepared to play whenever he’s ready.”
