The Michigan Wolverines' quarterback recruiting has been hot over the past few years, with elite players like Bryce Underwood, Jadyn Davis, and Brady Smigiel all joining the program under head coach Sherrone Moore.
On Monday morning, the Wolverines made more QB recruiting headlines, landing a commitment from 2027 elite QB Peter Bourque, the No. 7 passer in the class. Bourque stands at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 75 player in the 2027 class, and the No. 6 QB. He is the third commitment in 2027 for the Wolverines, who now have the No. 6 class in the cycle.
Fans of the Wolverines have grown accustomed to positive recruiting news at the QB position over the past couple of years. In the 2025 cycle, Michigan landed the most coveted prospect in the nation, 5-star Bryce Underwood, who was rated as the best player in the class.
Going into the 2025 season, Underwood is squarely in the starting QB competition with Mikey Keene and Jake Garcia, and there is a believe that he will be the guy for the Wolverines over the next three years until he becomes NFL draft eligible.

So where does Bourque, the newest Michigan QB, slot into the picture?
It's not unreasonable to believe that he could spend a year or two sitting and biding his time. If Underwood is in Ann Arbor through the 2027 season, then you could see 2026 4-star QB Brady Smigiel, the No. 9 QB in the class, take over as a redshirt sophomore, with Bourque competing for the spot.
Going into the 2025 season, there is a lot of intrigue surrounding the Wolverines' QB competition. When it comes to physical tools, there is no person more fit for the job than Underwood, who stands at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, and is said to have a playing style and physical stature similar to Vince Young, back during his time with the Texas Longhorns.
However, he lacks experience, which makes Keene, a Fresno State transfer, a viable option as well.
The Wolverines open up the season on August 30 against the New Mexico State Lobos, so they will have a winnable Week 1 game to figure the depth chart out. However, Week 2 will be no easy victory, with Michigan going on the road to Norman to face John Mateer and the Oklahoma Sooners.
It will be a big test for whoever starts at QB for Michigan.
